FAQ

  • What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique focused on promoting relaxation and well-being. Reiki is pronounced “Ray-Key.”It involves the gentle laying of hands on or near the body to facilitate a flow of positive energy. Practitioners often learn and practice hand patterns for placement on the body. The Reiki practitioner channels energy to these areas to ideally balance Chakras, aid in physical healing, and decrease stress and anxiety. Learn more here.

  • What should I expect in a session?

Check out the Services page for a description of what's included in a Reiki session.

Sessions are conducted fully clothed. You will be invited to remove your coat, shoes, glasses, hat, etc. You may wish to wear socks.

Clients will lie down on a typical massage table. I have pillows to support your head and supportive pads for under your knees. If desired, a blanket or sheet is offered. Clients often will choose to use an eye pillow. I offer the use of a heat pad on the table.

During a session, you'll typically feel deeply relaxed. Some people fall asleep, or go into a dream-like deep relaxation state. Some experience sensations like warmth or tingling. There are a wide variety of responses possible during a typical energy session, and all are normal, safe, and valid.

It is okay to talk at any time and I encourage you to let me know if you need to stop, change positions, or adjust your set-up for comfort.

  • Can energy work replace medical treatment?

Reiki and energy healing in general is not a substitute for professional medical care. Reiki works in harmony with other forms of treatment. If you need medical treatment, seek the advice of a qualified medical professional. Please see my Client Acknowledgement page. Sarah is not a qualified medical professional. If you are having a medical emergency, call 9-1-1.

  • Do I need to prepare for a session?

I recommend arriving in comfortable clothing and to limit your caffeine in-take prior to the session. Some find it beneficial to meditate and/or set your intentions prior to a session, but not required. I do not perform sessions for clients under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  • Do I need to be spiritual or practice a religion to benefit from Reiki?

No. Reiki is not associated with any religion and is available to all. Belief in energy healing isn’t necessary. Reiki can be thought to work in a similar way as acupuncture. I recommend having an open mind with the intention of positive outcomes.
